Northpoint City is really two malls joined underground, and the food is split across both halves. The North Wing is the older side. The South Wing is the 2017 side, and its basement is where the buses and the MRT underpass feed in. Where is the food in Northpoint City?
Most Yishun food guides list eighty places and never tell you the one thing that decides your lunch: which wing you walked in from.
Northpoint City’s two wings opened twenty-five years apart โ the North Wing in 1992, the South Wing in 2017 โ and they’re linked below ground through an underground garden. The Yishun bus interchange is built into the South Wing, and an underpass runs from Yishun MRT into the basement. So almost everyone arriving by public transport enters at basement level, not at the street.
That gives you a simple way to decide:
Basement, South Wing โ food you carry. This is the transfer level. If a bus or a train is waiting, this is where you order, take a bag, and keep walking. No queue number, no tray, no bill to settle at the end.
Upper levels โ food you sit down for. The restaurants stack upward, and that’s the direction to go if you have an hour and want a chair. Worth knowing before you commit to an escalator, because the two wings don’t line up floor-for-floor and backtracking costs you ten minutes.
Outside, across the road. Yishun Town Square and the hawker options beyond the mall are a separate trip, not a detour. If you’re already inside and hungry, staying inside is the faster call.
The point is the geography. Northpoint City is a transport building with shops attached, and most people inside it are mid-journey. Mid-journey people need food that doesn’t require sitting down.
What to order at I Love Taimei, Northpoint City

What we cook is Taiwan night market food โ Shilin and Raohe, not the sit-down restaurant version. Chicken fried once, fresh, when you order it. Tea shaken the same way. Here’s what to point at:
- Fried chicken โ $6.90. Four versions at one price: Original, Extra Crispy, BBQ, and Taiwan Popcorn Chicken. All of them are chicken thigh rather than breast. Thigh holds a marinade longer and stays tender even after it’s fried hard enough to shatter on the first bite. It costs us more than breast would. - Taiwan Popcorn Chicken โ $6.90. Bite-sized, and fried with basil leaves in the oil. That’s the night-market detail people notice before they can name it โ it’s what makes ้นฝ้ ฅ้ read as Taiwanese rather than as generic fried chicken. More in our popcorn chicken guide.
- Tofu Fries โ $3.90. The most under-ordered thing on our board. Soft inside, crisp outside, and meat-free if that matters to your table.
- Golden Sweet Potato Fries โ $4.60. Ask for Sour Plum powder on these. That pairing is the house standard, not a compromise.
- Brown Sugar Milk Tea โ $3.90 medium, $4.90 large. The drink we pair with everything fried.
Seasoning is free and worth asking for: Mala, Seaweed, Cheese, Garlic Seafood, or Sour Plum, plus spice levels from non-spicy up to extra hot. Sour Plum is the one first-timers don’t expect and then order again the week after.
One thing we state plainly, because the counter gets asked it daily: all our food is prepared with no pork and no lard, and we are not halal certified.
