Wait, why is it called Sengkang if it’s at Buangkok?

Because the address is Sengkang — 70 Compassvale Bow — but the train that drops you at the door is Buangkok, one stop earlier on the North East Line. Plenty of people ride to Sengkang MRT, walk out, and go “eh, where?”

Don’t be that person. Get off at Buangkok. The mall is built into the same development as the Buangkok Bus Interchange, so you can come by bus and never see a drop of rain either.

It’s a three-level retail mall with a hawker centre, a childcare centre and a community club in the same integrated development, according to CapitaLand. Small enough to walk end to end in ten minutes. Big enough that you’ll still argue about where to eat.

The chicken — all $6.90. Original Chicken if it’s your first time; it’s the plainest one and lets the marinade do the talking. Extra Crispy Chicken for a thicker batter and more crunch. BBQ Chicken if you want bold without spice. And Taiwan Popcorn Chicken, bite-sized and easy to share — that one’s fried with basil leaves in the oil, which is where the smell comes from when you walk past.

We use chicken thigh, not breast. Thigh holds the marinade longer and stays tender even when it’s fried hard. It costs more. It’s also the reason the chicken doesn’t go dry on you by the time you’re back on the train.

Everything’s fried fresh to order — no batch-frying and reheating. So yes, there’s a wait. That’s the trade.

Pick your spice level: non-spicy, mild, hot, or extra hot. Then pick a seasoning powder: Mala, Seaweed, Cheese, Garlic Seafood, or Sour Plum.

Drinks. Milk Tea, Jasmine Milk Tea and Oolong Milk Tea start at $3.50 (M) / $4.50 (L). Brown Sugar Milk Tea is $3.90 / $4.90 — that’s the one the brand pairs with the chicken.
