Most of the quick food at Junction 8 sits in the basement, a level down from the Bishan MRT connection — kiosks, a supermarket, and counters you order from and walk away with. Level 4 is the cinema floor, so that’s where the sit-down crowd goes. If you’re between a train and dinner at home, stay on B1. Here’s what’s worth the twenty minutes.
Where is the food at Junction 8?
Junction 8 splits its food roughly by how long you plan to sit. The basement is the takeaway and casual-counter level — it’s the floor that catches commuters coming off the Bishan MRT interchange and parents doing a supermarket run. The upper floors, including the Golden Village cinema on Level 4, are where people go when the meal is the plan.
That’s the practical rule for J8: if you have a table booked, go up. If you have a train to catch, go down.
The mall itself runs 10am to 10pm daily. Individual tenants don’t — several basement counters close earlier, which is worth knowing before you make the trip at 9.45pm.
What to eat at J8 when you only have twenty minutes
Twenty minutes at Junction 8 is enough for one hot thing and one cold thing, eaten on the walk back to the platform. The basement is built for exactly that.
If you want something you can hold in one hand, the fried-chicken and snack counters are the fastest turnaround. If you want a proper meal that still travels, a rice set packs better than noodles — it doesn’t go soft in the bag on the ride home to Ang Mo Kio or Serangoon.

I Love Taimei at Junction 8
We’re at #B1-22, 9 Bishan Place, Singapore 579837 — basement level, Mon–Sun 11:00–21:30.
Note the closing time. Junction 8 shuts at 10pm; our J8 counter closes at 9.30pm. It’s one of two outlets in our 14 that closes at 21:30 rather than 22:00, so if you’re planning a late supper run after a Level 4 movie, check your showtime first.
What we cook, all of it no pork, no lard:
- Chicken cutlets, $6.90 each — Original Chicken, Extra Crispy Chicken, BBQ Chicken. Thigh, not breast: the fat distribution is what keeps it tender after it’s been fried hard. Each one is fried fresh when you order, not pulled from a batch tray.
- Taiwan Popcorn Chicken, $6.90 — bite-sized, and fried with basil leaves in the oil. That basil is the detail that makes it read as Taiwanese rather than generic fried chicken; it’s the same move you’d see at a stall in Shilin. - Brown Sugar Milk Tea, $3.90 (M) / $4.90 (L) — the drink we pair with the chicken in our own menu language.
- Sides, $3.90–$5.30 — Tofu Fries, Golden Sweet Potato Fries, Enoki Mushroom, Taiwan Seafood Tempura. The first three are vegetarian-friendly, which helps when the group can’t agree.
- Braised Chicken Rice Set — our Lu Rou Fan, made with braised chicken instead of pork belly, because the kitchen has been no-pork, no-lard since we opened in 2009.
